Obituary
Annie Pearl Matthews affectionately known as
“Minkey” was born in Florence County, to the late James
Singletary and the late Christine McMillian Singletary.
She transitioned on May 10, 2024 at MUSC Health
Medical Center in Florence, SC.
“Minkey” attended school in Florence County and was a
dedicated employee of Walmart, where she retired in
2023. She was a member of New Life Seventh Day
Adventist Church in Lake City, SC where she served as a
Deaconess for many years. She was the devoted wife of
Glenn Matthews. They shared 44 loving years together.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father James
and Christine Singletary; father and mother-in-law Texas
Sr. and Louise Matthews; two daughters Lisa (Daniel)
Cunningham and Melissa Wilson; two grandchildren
Cornelius McClary and Kelvin Burgess; five siblings
Rutha Lee “Cudabug” Gamble, Jake “Bubba Dick”
Singletary, Joseph “Big John” Singletary, James (Winnie)
Singletary, David (Kyaa) Singletary; and a special niece
Linda Singletary McKenzie.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her loving
husband, Glenn Matthews of Coward, SC; four children,
Willie Wilson of Coward, SC, Christopher Wilson of
Charlotte, NC, David Wilson of Lake City, SC and Anna
Denise Wilson of Beaufort, SC; four step children
Sheronda Hanna of Coward, SC, Yolanda Matthews of
Jamaica Queens, NY, Kesha Moore of Bordentown, NJ,
Kelvin Matthews of Brooklyn, NY and Byron “Mec”
Matthews of Manhattan, NY; two siblings Rosa Lee
(Leroy) McKenzie of Lake City, SC, William (Lutricia)
Singletary of Lake City, SC; 11 grandchildren: Candida
Matthews, Anquette Dallas, LaKrystal Burgess, Raeshad
Wilson, Quinn McClam, Nyeshia Robinson, Daisia
Wilson, Shyheim Wilson, Shykeim Wilson, Jade Wilson
and Addison Wilson; four step grandchildren, 18 great
grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and a host of in
laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and coworkers.
