Obituary

The Lord is the light of my salvation whom shall fear.

Mr. Courtney Burroughs slipped into eternal rest on Sunday. August 6, 2023 peacefully at home.

Mr.Courtney Burroughs was born August 20, 1930 in Florence County to the late Abraham and Sarah Burroughs. At an early age he joined St. Mark A.M.E. Church in Hemingway, S.C. where he received Christ. Later in life he joined St. Mark A.M.E. in Lake City, S.C. He was a member of W.M. Will Do Lodge #322.

He was the owner of the Shell Station for many years. He later worked at Talon until he retired. Mr. Courtney Burroughs was joined in holy matrimony to Annie Lee Burroughs on September 26, 1956. Mr. Burroughs is preceded in death by his wife Annie Lee Burroughs; a son Alfred Burroughs; brothers, Henry Burroughs, Dessir Burroughs, Jimmy Burroughs and Douga Burroughs; sisters Susie Mae Burroughs, Emma Burroughs and Mary Rachel Cameron and his grandson Stanley Pickett.

Mr. Burroughs leaves to cherish his memory his children:

Vanessa Singletary of the home, Courtney Burroughs Sr. of Lake City SC, Charles (Celia) Burroughs of North Carolina, and Glenn (Herminia) Burroughs of New Jersey; a daughter-in-law, Donna Burroughs (Alfred); three grandchildren he raised:

Jamar (Natasha) Singletary, Jayden Cannon and Madison Smith; three brothers: Truman Burroughs of Lake City, SC, Charlie (Doris Burroughs of Olanta, SC, and Abraham (Rosa) Burroughs of Winston Salem, NC; one sister, Sarah Williams of Florence, SC; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews as well. Special thanks to All Quality Healthcare and Lake City Community Care Center for the support and love that they have shown our dad.
