Life Reflections
Mrs. Irene Godwin Graham was born July 5, 1932, in
Florence County, South Carolina to the late Sam “Hart” and
Katie Moore Godwin. Our beloved Irene passed on in the
wee hours of the morning, December 30, 2023, at her home.
Irene was affectionately known as “Huggie” and” Deetree” by
her family. She attended Florence County Schools. Irene was
a member of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church in
Lake City, SC and after marriage joined Mt. Clair Missionary
Baptist Church. She later joined Word of God Outreach
Ministry in Scranton, SC.
Irene was employed by Attorney Larry and Paula Reddick.
She was a homemaker and caregiver of all her grandchildren
as well as great-grandchildren, all of who affectionately
refer to her as “mama”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe
Graham Jr.; daughter, Debra Graham Fulmore; three
brothers: MacRoy (LeCandace) Godwin, Arthur Godwin and
Robert Godwin; and four sisters: Ollie Mae (Darby) Brayboy,
Ruther Lee (Roger) Adams, Lucille (James) Graham and
Betty (Marion) McKnight.
She leaves to cherish her memories, five daughters: Sharon
McNeil, Arlene (Wilbur) Darby, and Virginia (Kelvin) Alford,
all of Lake City, SC, Kenya (Samuel) Cameron of Scranton,
SC, and Beverly (Joseph) Singletary of Florence, SC; two
sons: Joey Graham of Lake City, SC and Jason Graham of
Lexington, SC; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-
grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Alberta Godwin and
Geneva Godwin both of Lake City, SC; one brother-in-law,
James (Helen) Graham of Lane, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other family and friends.
