OBITUARY

Ms. Marjorie Ann State, affectionately known as "Margie," transitioned from this life on Monday, May 20th, 2024, at McLeod Regional Hospital in Florence, South Carolina.

Marjorie was born on February 17, 1957, in Lake City, South Carolina, to the late Deacon Eugene State and Mother Lillie Ann Washington State. She was the eleventh of twelve children. 

She completed her education in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Lake City High School.

In her professional career, Marjorie worked in the real estate industry as a mortgage lender with Fleet Funding. After her tenure at Fleet Funding, she dedicated the rest of her life to fulfilling her dreams.

Marjorie had a deep love for music and the arts. She also had a passion for fashion, often creating and designing her own clothing. Marjorie was exceptionally talented in interior design, drawing, and calligraphy among other things.

She was also a member and lead singer of the gospel group, The Honeybees, and was known for her distinct raspy voice and grit.

Marjorie leaves behind to cherish her memory her sisters and brother: Ms. Martha Wilson and Donna Ree State of Lake City, SC; Dr. Lue Ellen Salters of Florence, SC; Deacon Roy Lee (Jerline) State of Andrews, SC; and Bernice State of New York, NY. She also leaves behind a special nephew and niece with whom she raised as siblings, Ransom (Rhonella) Gamble and Diane (Tony) Wilder. Additionally, she is survived by her special friend, Mr. James Vereen, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
